The first artist that he heard was Elvis Presley. Paul first performed in front of an audience at the age of 11. This was at his local youth club where he mimed to the Elvis hit Jailhouse Rock. After this, he got the buzz and wanted to collect more Rock n Roll records. In 1980, Paul saw the rock n roll revival show, called Oh Boy. This is where, he first discovered Shakin Stevens. Paul recalls when he first saw Shaky performing on the show, the style and the way he came across, completely blew him away. This guy had everything, the looks, the moves, and the feel that he genuinely had for real 1950’s rock n roll. Since that first show Shaky became his hero and Paul collected every available single, album, CD, video and DVD that he could lay his hands on. Shaky has always been a major influence in the presentation of the way he performs his songs on stage. Paul took up karaoke on a regular basis with a few friends that run a karaoke set. After a few performances impersonating the Welsh legend, friends of Paul encouraged him that he should try it professionally. Not thinking much of it, Paul continued as he did and ignored the comments, taking them as friendly compliments. It wasn’t until he was getting the compliment nearly every performance that he decided to take them seriously. At this, Paul got his first big break at The Woolpack Public House, in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire. The gig was a huge success and he was offered another gig straight away in another local pub, and also a return gig at the Woolpack. Word soon got around about Paul and pretty soon, he was getting gigs more common than he had first predicted. Paul went about publicising himself by getting his first website created by his son Aaron and the gigs started flooding in, in local pubs, social clubs, restaurants holiday camps and private gatherings. The press heard about Paul’s success, and went about writing up on him. The Echo, Yellow Advertiser, Basildon Recorder and the Essex Enquirer interviewed Paul and it went out across Essex and East London. This led to even more bookings. Once the Shaky Experience became established it very quickly became evident that more was wanted from Paul as a rock n roll artist. He was being asked to sing other Rock n Roll classics and soon he was putting on a Rock n Roll show which covered songs by legendary greats such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and Gene Vincent and many more. Wherever he performs he is always asked to perform songs by the King. This led to another tribute show dedicated to Elvis. He feels that this is a real priviledge to be able to portray such a legend. Pauls partner Jayne is his Manager and Promoter and has been a major influence in his career, by giving her support and encouraging him every step of the way. She is his sound and lighting technician and designed this website. Jayne also sent a demo disc to the ITV hit show Stars in their eyes. The band like mostly to record live in the studio, just the way they used to back then, with few overdubs, trying to write songs that reflect day to day living but with the beat of a highly infectious rock 'n' roll band behind the lyrics to drive the songs along into a danceable groove. A combination of vintage and modern equipment is a factor in achieving this aim which they use on stage and in the recording studio. The lead vocal and lead guitar channels both go through a Watkins tape echo chamber to give it that slightly edgy driven authentic sound. The band have so far produced 3 CD's, the first being at Boz Boorer's studio in London where they cut 'The Grim Reaper' (Gunner), now a dance club classic, 'Long Tall Sally', 'Blue Moon', 'Lawdy Miss Clawdy' and 'Wild Wild Lover'. Their second recording was at Sweet Georgia Brown's, also in London, several months later. Paul sings lead and backing vocals, keyboards, guitar and bass guitar and acts as Musical Director for our live performances and producer for our recording and video projects. Alec Chapman Alec Chapman first played the bass guitar at 14 and since then has developed his keyboard and guitar playing skills which are put to good use in Stealth Taxis. Counting Crows is one of his favourite bands. Mike Cameron Mike has performed with various bands as a permanent member and has deputised in others.
